Background information
De company was founded as a one-man business in the late forties by mr. J.L. Overmeer Sr. As a true born member of a bargee's family he started with inland freighting to France on the shipping-exchange in Amsterdam. After his sun mr. K.N. Overmeer succeeded him, activities were enlarged to inland shipments within the Netherlands and to Belgium and Germany. A further liberation of the market in the mid seventies made it possible not only to ship towards Germany but also from Germany to other European countries.
The present owner, mr. J.L. Overmeer Jr., who started to work in de family business on his sixteenth, took over the company in the early eighties. The company moved to the Amsterdam harbour and the first employees were engaged. Although the company already has grown under the previous generation, the real expension started in the nineteeth by a further liberalisation of the market and the extention of the shipping territory. By the opening of the Main-Donau canal for instance, freighting became also possible to Austria and Hungary.

In 1999 the company moved from the shipping-exchange in Amsterdam to a new building in Amsterdam-Noord on the 'IJ', Nieuwendammerdijk 526-S1.

A positive development for the company was the abolition of the government controled freighting. Overmeer anticipated on this by opening a second branch in Rotterdam, recently moved to the Maasharbour, Overmeer Rotterdam BV.

To serve their customers in the Northern-German region even better, a third branch was opened in Germany on the 1the of March 2006 in Getmold, Germany nearby the Mittellandcanal: Overmeer Schifffahrt & Transport GmbH.

The north-south transport has becoming more and more importent recent years. Therefore a new branch is opened August 2007 in France in Bray sur Seine. In the centre of the French shipping territory 3 employees are at your service.

In addition to an own fleet, Overmeer also has a number of rental boats. And there are also several privat shippers who carry out various transports for Overmeer. The constant adaptation of the ways of transport to the demand of the clients, is one of the strong point of the company. Not only an extensive knowledge of products and locations is necessary, but also a excellent insight in the current requirements.
At each office a team of employees is at your disposal, each with its own specialism. Together with you they will try to find a fitting solution to all your questions and problems in the field of transport of dry cargos or special constructions.
